My Alien Mojo Individually they may be outplayed, there are certainly better and more skillful musicians out there; outsang, as there are vocalists with more range; outlucked, as they have been mostly on the outskirts of the mainstream, with minor hits but never getting the lucky breaks. Collectively, they are the masters of music mojo -- passion for the craft which shows up in their choice of materials, instrumentation and structure. This is My Alien Mojo -- extraordinary, strange, out-of-this-world passion for music. Referencing the masters of the past and creating the Manila sound for the 21st century. The roots of the music is rock, with elements of 1970s soul and 1980s synth-pop. The band is a re-union of the 1990s band Aftershool, which released an album in 1996 - Sleeping With The Lights On (BMG-Musiko label). Keyboardist Willy Villa, Bassist Gerard Jovellanos, Guitarist Rodel Kalalang and Singer/ Songwriter Rommel Carrera were from the original band. Drummer Alvin Nacino joined in 2011 to complete the group, replacing original drummer Edison Jovellanos. The band\'s re-union was triggered by a desire to \"scratch an itch\" and vindicate their 1990\'s experiences. The original plan was to \"rehash\" the 1990s album, but the initial meeting between Willy and Rommel uncovered several unrecorded compositions with new things to say. A full-blown album project was started -- but done deliberately, inspecting each song and each element. Complete tracks were recorded and discarded -- as the group doggedly searched for their signature sound. They found it after acquiring enough equipment to build a decent studio - a slick blend of rock, funk and soul; an amalgam of guitars, synthesizers and a flexible rhythm section. A marriage of technology and old-school songwriting and playing. This is the sound of My Alien Mojo.
